A Blessing In Disguise

For awhile there, I felt like a major financial contributor to my household. Even though my husband works two jobs, I was still raking in $200+ a week right before Demand Media Studios made the First Look announcement. With all of the extra money coming in, we thought we would be out of debt in no time. Unfortunately, now it's back to waiting for tax season. Ugh.

With Christmas just around the corner, I can't help but feel inadequate when it comes to my current income situation. Since October 5, I haven't claimed a single title with DMS. Is it sad that I remember the exact date of that "exciting" announcement? Ha!

As much as I complain, I can't hide the fact that things are beginning to look up. I feel as if the First Look announcement was somewhat of a blessing in disguise for freelancers like myself who relied on DMS as their main egg. Since then, I've shifted my focus to other sites---like Constant-Content---where I dictate how much my work is worth. My per-article basis has seen a $5 increase in the past two months and for that, I am grateful.

If you relied on Demand Media as your main source of income and didn't make it into the First Look program, how are you feeling? What have you done to increase your earnings since then? Did you go out and get a day-job or have you stayed at home to dabble in other opportunities? I'm interested in hearing from you. :)
