Thank You Thursday: Mrs. Pugh

This will be the last Thank You Thursday post until further notice. This pregnancy has been kicking my butt, and it has left me with zero energy for daily responsibilities, let alone my blog. I will still update whenever possible, and the Freelance Friday and Word Wednesday series' will continue. I just need to lighten my load a little until the sickness and fatigue subside. I thank you for your understanding and I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Today, I am thanking an old teacher of mine. She was my 5th grade teacher and in middle school, she was my public speaking instructor and English teacher. It's been many, many years since I've seen her, but I thought about her today.

I was always pretty shy in school, and although I was an excellent student, I had stage fright. In 5th grade, I was required to present a Science Fair project to the entire school. With Mrs. Pugh's help, I succeeded and even received a Superior award and a trip to the District Science Fair. Because of her persistence, I won a Superior Blue Ribbon at the District Science Fair as well. I was still shy, though, and it wasn't until 7th grade that I opened up a bit. And it was all thanks to Mrs. Pugh. During a public speaking course, she encouraged me to get up in front of the class and "think on my toes." I had to make up a story about how Pizza Hut came to be. I was a nervous wreck, but I got up there and I did it. She congratulated me and she made me feel 100% better about speaking in front of others.

I know it was only middle school, but that day truly changed my life. I began making more friends and my life improved dramatically. When there was no one else there to motivate and encourage me, she was. And I will never forget her.

Thank you, Mrs. Pugh.
