Homemade Deep Fried Pickle Chips Recipe

The first time that I had ever tried deep-fried pickle chips was at Max & Erma's with my little sister. Let me tell you, I was sold. It became something like an addiction. Unfortunately, driving three cities away fulfill my cravings wasn't practical, so I started making them at home.

Amazingly delicious.

It took me awhile to get the "breading" down. I had tried bread crumbs, shake & bake mix, and seasoned flour, but none of them were good enough. Finally, I mastered the "breading" with none other than crushed saltine crackers. Who'da thought?

Check out my recipe below.

What You'll Need:
2 cups dill pickle chips
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 whole egg
1/2 cup milk
2 cups crushed saltine crackers
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon red pepper (optional)
Directions:
Place pickle chips on a paper towel, and pat dry.

In a gallon-sized food storage bag, mix together flour, salt, and black pepper.
Place pickle chips into the bag of the flour mixture, and shake until well-coated.
In a small bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.

Place crushed crackers on a plate. Mix in red pepper (and/or any other seasonings you desire).
Working in batches, dip the flour-coated pickles into the egg mixture. Shake to remove excess egg.
Place directly into the crushed cracker mixture. Press gently into the crackers and then flip and repeat. Place cracker-coated pickle chips onto a plate. Repeat until all pickle chips are "breaded."
Using a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of oil to 350 degrees. In batches, cook pickles for one minute, or until golden brown, before turning once. Continue to cook until the other side is golden brown, and then drain on paper towels.

Serve immediately with ranch dressing or honey mustard.
