All Natural? - HNL Sugar Free Energy Drink Mix Review

For the past two years, energy drinks have been my morning drink of choice. Because I've been trying to watch my weight, the sugar-laden drinks are no longer practical for me. While looking into new energy drink options, I came across a natural energy drink powder that I was eager to try.

HNL Natural Green Energy Drink Mix claims to be a sugar-free energy drink option for increased energy and focus. When I came across HNL Natural Green Energy Drink, I did a bit more research on the product, just to be sure that what I was getting was a high-quality, safe product. Unfortunately, what I uncovered was not particularly favorable.

* Product and/or service provided for review without cost. As always, all opinions are my own.

First and foremost, HNL Natural Green Energy Drink Mix is advertised as "natural," and on the insert it says, "100% ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS." This, is in fact, false, as it contains not only artificial flavors, but also sucralose and maltodextrin.

Artificial flavors cannot be described as "all-natural," as they are produced in labs by humans and do not occur naturally. Sucralose is not a natural ingredient either, as it is not found in nature. While sucralose is made from sugar, the sugar molecule is modified which is why sucralose is classified as an "artificial" sweetener. Finally, maltodextrin is also contained in HNL Natural Energy Drink. Maltodextrin is derived from natural sources, but is still a processed additive isolated from its natural context and also has a high glycemic index.

Secondly, the taste of the product does not appeal to me at all. The flavor is reminiscent of grape Kool-Aid, without any sweetness. It is quite bitter and leaves a sour aftertaste in my mouth. It was rather difficult to get down, to be perfectly honest.

Below, you'll find photographs of the product, as well as additional information. Please, be wary when purchasing items claiming to be "all-natural."

The energy drink comes in a small canister—which I expected to be larger based on the photographs—and includes a scoop.

This is what the powder looks like. It has a grainy texture, and actually looks like sand.

This is interesting, as silicon dioxide, also known as "sand" is contained on the ingredients list. This isn't abnormal, as many companies use silicon dioxide in their products as an anti-caking agent.

The directions state to add one scoop to 8 ounces or 16 ounces of water. I suppose it depends on your preference. You can then use the included whisk to mix it all together (with the included whisk) until its dissolved.

The color of the drink mix is a deep plum. The taste, however, is not impressive by any means. It's bitter and tastes like grape Kool-Aid, without sugar. It leaves a sour aftertaste in my mouth.

Healthy Natural Lives claims that the energy drink will boost energy (a balance, quick boost that lasts a few hours), help optimize weight loss by decreasing appetite, and improve alertness. If the product does not do as it is advertised, you're backed by the 100% Money Back Guarantee.

I didn't experience any increase in focus or energy, so I cannot vouch for the company regarding the product's effectiveness. If you're still interested in purchasing Natural Green Energy Drink, you can find it on Amazon.
