It was until later that these stones would be associated with the zodiac. This belief was suggested by Flavius Josephus and later by St. Jerome, both of whom made the connection.
While there is still uncertainty surrounding the modern concept of birthstones (with each stone representing one month out of the year), people from all over the world enjoy wearing their stone, often set in jewelry.
Since my daughter had her ears pierced, I've been purchasing birthstone earrings for her. She loves the color purple, which just so happens to be the color of Amethyst, her birthstone.
These earrings that I received from KidsGold.com are 14 k Gold, with a beautiful Amethyst set inside each.

The earrings arrived beautiful displayed in a gift box, along with a gift bag featuring the Kids Gold logo and website.
To be honest, I think that the logo on the box could stand to be a bit more elegant; The jewelry itself is beautiful and sophisticated; the logo, however, doesn't exude the same sophistication due to its bold colors and "kiddish" font. Also, a ribbon—instead of the rope-style string—would have been more suitable, in my opinion.
The gift box, on the other hand, is very nice. The pure white color and the gorgeous texture really complete the look of the box.
It opened easily enough on the hinge and locked in place to reveal a pair of gorgeous Amethyst 14k gold earrings. Unfortunately, the logo again draws the eye upward and not to the earrings.
Fortunately, the earrings make up for it with their beauty. I immediately loved them. I've purchased birthstone earrings before and I can say with certainty that this is one of the most beautiful pairs we've owned in the past. They glisten more in the sun and the gold is far more pristine.
Each stone is held in place by a claw setting; this setting allows the maximum amount of light to enter the stone from all angles. This is precisely why this stone seems to glisten far more than others that we've owned—many of which were bezel-set.
While photographing the earrings, my daughter ran up to admire their beauty. With a deep breath and mesmerized stare, she managed to whisper, "Wow!" She smiled and asked me to switch out the earrings she was wearing. Being that I chose these earrings for her, I happily obliged.
I love how they look and so does she!
