Winter Scarves on Amazon: Is it worth it?

Today is officially the first day of winter—and the weather agrees. The temperature here in Ohio is at freezing, exactly a chilly 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Brrr! Nowadays, a cozy sweater, warm coat, and scarves come in handy.

I recently picked up the above blue and white plaid scarf on Amazon for $17.95.

It's a blanket scarf and let me tell you, this thing is huge! For my daughter, who is four, it actually is the size of a blanket!

While it's a big scarf, there were some issues that I ran into.

First of all, I always encourage my readers to check Amazon product reviews before placing an order. I always look at the negative reviews first, just to get an idea of any issues I might face. Unfortunately, this product has zero reviews on Amazon at the moment. Of course, that doesn't mean that the product is crap—it simply means it's a new product or has just been listed.

Next, I'd like to discuss the ordering process. You can pick up the scarf on Amazon and there are three color selections including black and white, red and blue, and of course, the blue that I received.

I'd like to add that I did not order the blue scarf. I actually selected the red and blue scarf before checking out.

This is the scarf that I received.

Now, I didn't really care that I had received the blue scarf—as a matter of fact, I didn't even realize until I looked back at my order. Either way, I do believe this is an issue, especially if you really want a specific color. Needless to say, practice caution when ordering from here.

If you're going to risk it, know that Amazon has a fabulous customer service department.

Moving along...

The scarf is sold by a company called "Trendilize" on Amazon, but the scarf itself is NYC Underground. If you're familiar with NYC Underground, you know that this is a brand sold at Nordstrom.

Now, I will say with certainty, that this particular scarf is not the same quality as the scarves found at Nordstrom. I don't know if this is a copycat brand or what, but the quality does not compare.

It's made of 100% polyester and is knitted with yarn with a curled ply (boucle). You can see the waves and curls below in the fringe on the edge of the scarf.

Despite the fact that I received a color I hadn't selected, this scarf is actually pretty nice. It's soft, it's big, and it's comfortable. I like the colors—I think they'll fit in well with my current wardrobe. It's stylish and trendy.

I do have a few gripes, however. Of course, the first gripe is the ordering issue. It wasn't a huge deal for me, but when I'm mentioning a product to my readers, I want them to be aware of any roadblocks they might run into. If you order this, you might not receive the color you ordered. This is based on my experience.

Next, while the scarf itself is nice, it's a little thin. If you hold it up, you can see a few holes between the yarn and light shines through. It won't protect you from the elements very well, but of course, that's not really what it's designed to do. It's designed to keep you warm. Even still, I think you're going to need to wear several layers under this scarf.

Finally, the price point is a bit too steep for me. Then again, I'm the kind of girl who questions paying $20 for a blouse. I just can't justify paying $18 for a scarf, especially one that's somewhat thin. It is big, however, and can be wrapped several times, but it's just not worth $18 to me.

Overall, I'm not going to be able to recommend this scarf. It's nice but between the ordering issue, the thinness of the scarf, and the price point, it's just not my cup of tea. If you're still interested in picking it up, you can purchase it here:
