Kids Say the Darndest Things - Part II

Whenever I'm down, it's like C senses it, because he always says something that cracks me up.

Today, I had a head-splitting migraine, and I was moping around the house, preparing chili for dinner. I was getting pretty irritated because the temperature of my stove kept suddenly rising, even though I hadn't touched the dial. As I'm mumbling under my breath, C calmly announces, "I want to be a mommy."

I wasn't sure I'd heard him correctly.

"What, baby?" I asked.
"I want to be a mommy because I want to have a baby," he replied.

As usual, I couldn't contain my laughter and naturally, he became frustrated.

That's when I realized that I was being kind of close-minded.

I wasn't sure how to explain why I was laughing when I realized my mistake. It actually wasn't that funny. I know plenty of single-women who play the role of both daddy and mommy. And I'm sure there are plenty of single men out there who play the "mommy" role too. It's not about gender. It's about doing your job as a parent---mommy or daddy.

I love how C's antics can help me better myself and improve my way of thinking.
