RiverScape MetroPark in Dayton, Ohio
RiverScape MetroPark is located in downtown Dayton, Ohio, along the Great Miami River. RiverScape acts as a venue for a plethora of events, including concerts, festivals, and even ice skating in the winter.
After the great Dayton flood of 1913, levees were built, and local Daytonians no longer embraced the rivers like they once had. Even when a bike pathway was constructed along the river in 1976, people were still shying away from the water. By 1997, though, memories of the great flood had receded, and Dayton took charge.
Contractors began working to bring the Great Miami riverbank back to life. What was once a bare bikepath along the river turned into a sprawling park with hanging floral baskets, beautiful brick walls, and even a giant fountain in the water. When the park was opened in May 2001, over 50,000 people showed up to admire the beauty of the area. It wasn't long before Dayton began hosting special events at RiverScape for the public to enjoy.
I love RiverScape. I've only been there a handful of times, but relaxing along the river never gets old. Besides the annual events, mother nature also makes it's presence known at RiverScape. From beaver to snapping turtles, and literally dozens of bird species, the area is ideal for animal lovers.
