Recipe: Deep Fried Pickle Chips

Homemade Deep Fried Pickles Recipe

I've been craving deep fried pickles for awhile now, but it's just not practical to head on over to Max & Erma's to pick up a batch, especially when you work gas prices into the equation. Two days ago, my sister wouldn't shut up about them, and being the prego woman that I am, I haven't been able to get 'em out of my head. So, today, I cooked up a batch of my own. And they were absolutely DELISH!

2 Cups dill pickle slices
1 Cup all-purpose flour
1 Large egg
1/2 Cup milk (any kind)
1 Tsp fresh ground pepper
2 Cups bread crumbs (or crushed saltine crackers)
1/2 Tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 Tsp paprika
1/4 Tsp garlic powder
Ranch dressing (for dipping)
Cooking oil
Paper towels
Zip storage baggie
Small mixing bowl


If you're using crackers, place about 1 pack into a zip storage baggie and crush. You'll want the texture to be somewhat like bread crumbs, but it's fine if there are a few chunks throughout.

Place bread crumbs or crushed crackers on a plate. Mix in cayenne pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

In a zip baggie, add flour and pepper. Shake until mixed together.

Mix egg with milk in a small bowl.


Drop pickle slices into the flour mixture, 5 at a time, zip bag, and shake until fully coated. Remove pickles and dip them into the egg/milk mixture.

Remove pickle slices from the egg mixture and place in the bread crumbs or saltine crumbs, being sure to get both sides evenly coated. Place aside on a clean plate and repeat until all pickle slices are breaded.

Drop 5 at a time into the oil and cook for 1 minute on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Serve with ranch dressing.
