There are beautiful beaches, amazing mountains, and lush countryside, not to mention incredible food and some of the best wine in the world. Paris is great but the weather isn’t always brilliant around northern France. If it’s sun that you’re after, you should head for southern France instead. Provence is one of the most popular areas because of the Mediterranean sun and the luscious countryside that is a world away from the urban centre of Paris. Just make sure that you’re wearing plenty of sunscreen because it gets very hot and that’s one of the main reasons that people get sick while they travel. The whole area is covered with rolling hills, quaint little farms, olive trees, and wonderful smelling lavender fields. The region became famous as a site of inspiration for impressionist painters that captured the beautiful landscapes. It’s very popular with tourists that want a more relaxing travel experience away from the big cities.

The food is one of the best things about Provence because there are plenty of farms growing lots of great ingredients that the restaurants use to cook some incredible food with. People also love the area because it has a rich history and there are lots of medieval villages to visit. If it’s a beach getaway that you’re after, you should head down to the popular seaport of Marseilles.

If you don’t mind the cold and you want to do something a little more exciting than laying on the beach in the sun all day long, you should head to one of the many great skiing resorts that you’ll find in France. There are a lot of different resorts that cater to different tastes but the best all around ones are definitely in Meribel. There are some amazing places to stay like the luxury Chalet Iona in Meribel which is just a stone’s throw away from all of the ski runs. There are lots of good beginner ones out there so don’t worry if you’re not a very experienced skier. The area around the ski resorts is breathtaking so even if you’re not that bothered about skiing, it’s still a great place to visit.

The Côte d’Azur

The Côte d’Azur, often known as the French Riviera, has long been a popular summer destination that attracts tourists from around the globe. It can get very busy during the summer months so if you’re not a big fan of crowds, it’s best to go during the Autumn or the Spring. The weather will still be great then and it’s going to be a lot more peaceful. There’s a bit of something for everybody in the French Riviera, it’s not just about the beaches. While a lot of people go there to spend their days relaxing on the beach and swimming in the shimmering blue waters, there are some great cultural sights to see as well. If you’re an art lover, Nice is the ideal place to visit. There are so many great galleries and museums tucked down the quaint, cobblestone streets. If you’re looking for luxury, you’ll find it in the French Riviera as well. Places like Saint Tropez, Cannes, and Monaco are popular destinations for the rich and famous from around the globe. They’re filled with plenty of luxury villas and hotels, high end restaurants, and marinas where you can hire a yacht. It’s an expensive trip but if you’ve got the money to do it, it’s a beautiful place to visit.

If you’re a history lover, Normandy is the best region of France to visit by far. You can visit the Normandy beaches and learn about the history of the Second World War in a truly unique way. But that’s not the only history that you’ll find there. The entire region is filled with historic castles and churches, and very traditional towns that perfectly capture the history of this diverse country. There are also some nice seaside resorts when you can relax when you’re not immersing yourself in the area’s history.

France is such a rich and varied country and if you only visit Paris and don’t go elsewhere, you’re really missing out.
