Far From A Gray Area! Why It’s Never Been Better To Be “Old”

They are all expressions that are ubiquitous in modern culture now- “aging like a fine wine,” “40 is the new 30” etc. And when you look back to 20 years ago, people in their 40s were seemingly over the hill and should be put out to pasture. But now, it seems that getting older is not a bad thing, and in fact, it's something that is almost welcomed! So, if you have any concerns about getting older, let's put them to rest.

Got A Health Problem? Don't Worry!

Let's face it, there's more than our fair share of solutions to common ailments. From the most modern hearing technology for those that have tinnitus to insulin for people with Type 1 diabetes; if there's a problem, there's usually a medical solution. As we get older, we can find ourselves suffering from more issues relating to aging, but you only have to look at the fact that life expectancy is increasing, and that the biohacker community is forever looking for ways to prolong their life. Whether this is through intermittent fasting, a concoction of supplements, or the fact that there's just more medical help out there, if we feel that we are getting weaker because we're getting older, there are so many solutions.

The Changing Face Of Modern Society

If you look at the values of today compared to yesteryear, it was about the 2.4 Children, the traditional family setup, and the age-old approaches to working. Now, everybody has the ability to forge their own life in the way that they want. A very good example is the career choices we make. Now, we are able to work from home and set up a self-employed life for ourselves, meaning that we can do what we want to maintain the balance. Sure, there are a lot more in the way of modern stresses, but now, there's not that almighty pressure to get your “perfect” career by the time you are 30, 40, or even 50! This links back to increased life expectancy. We don't necessarily have that pressure to get money in place by the time we retire. Perhaps this is because we will retire at a much later age, but because we are healthier, and there's more help out there, medically, mentally, or emotionally, we are able to live a more fulfilling life. In addition to this, if we look at the difference between the baby boomer and millennial generations, the values are very different. It's not about material goods, or that mighty paycheck. Instead, it is about quality of life. And perhaps this is why we're not going gray so quickly?

Look at the heroes of popular culture, they aren't all young, 17-year-old go-getters! You've got middle-aged heroes, and now because of the internet being able to cover a longer stretch of history, the heroes from the 1980s are still alive and kicking. And perhaps this has a major bearing on how we are supposedly getting old. It's not about how old you are, but it is how you are old. And in this case, it's never been better to be “old.”
