The People You Need In Your Life When You're Working As A Freelancer

(Credit)

There are many benefits to being a freelancer.

You can work to your own schedule. You can possibly work in your pj's. And you can run your business on your own terms, without an interfering busybody of a boss breathing down your neck every few minutes.

It's the dream, right?

Yes and no! When you're a freelancer, you have to be a jack (or jill) of all trades. Rather than getting down to the nitty-gritty of whatever it is you are specialized in, you also have to devote a huge amount of time to the other practicalities of running your own business. This will prevent you from clocking off early and leaving your home office, and those other things freelancers don't do enough of because of the extra work you will have to do.

You might feel lonely too, especially if you don't have a lot of company in the day.

With this in mind then, here are the people you need in your life as a freelancer.

An Accountant

If the thought of doing your own taxes fills you with panic, and you are less than savvy in managing your finances, then hire an accountant to help you. Not only will they take on some of your worst tasks, but they will also give you advice when you need it. In many ways, with the help they give, they could also save you from potential financial ruin.

An IT Professional

You might know how to turn on a computer, and you can probably turn it off again. Wahey! But if you are reliant on your computer for work, and you are unsure as to how to secure it from hacking threats, and how to back up your data in the event of a malicious virus or a power cut (or any other technical issues) then you need somebody on your side to help you. Therefore, hire an IT consultant from an established firm such as Quest, and seek as much help as you can to protect your business.

A Virtual Assistant

You might not have the finances to pay for your own personal assistant, and you probably don't have an administrator on hand for some of your most time-consuming tasks, such as chasing invoices and answering phone calls. So, for this reason, hire a virtual assistant to take on some of these admin tasks for you. Source somebody from a professional agency, or give other freelancers a boost by hiring a freelance virtual assistant from sites such as PeoplePerHour. You can then get on with the work you need to do, without having to worry about another late day at the office.

A Friend

Finally, this person will prove invaluable. When you have worked hard all day with little to no social company, a close friend will give you all the social company you need. They will help you unwind, distract you from work, and might even make your dinner for you if you're too tired to go into the kitchen! As we said, invaluable!

Freelancing can be a dream for many, but it can also be tough, especially when you're working on your own. Follow our tips then, and if you are working as a freelancer, let us know what other types of people make your life easier!
